Review: Brandi Carlile's Give Up The Ghost

Friday, November 06, 2009 Posted by Dina N

I had not heard about Brandi Carlile until I received an opportunity to review her new album, courtesy of the One2One Network. Her voice sounded vaguely familiar - turns out many of her songs are featured on one of my favorite shows, Grey's Anatomy.

Brandi's new CD Give Up The Ghost was released on October 6 by Columbia Records. I received a download of this album, and have not stopped listening to it since! Brandi is a very talented artist, with a rich and expressive voice. Her lyrics are meaningful, and I found many lines in these songs that speak to me personally and seem to echo some of my own thoughts. I love the sound of the instrumentals, especially the guitar and piano. They are the perfect accompaniment to Brandi's vocals.

I enjoyed all the tracks in Give Up The Ghost, and it's hard to single out favorites. I absolutely love Dying Day, Pride and Joy, I Will, and Dreams. Caroline had me humming along and dancing with my kids. This album would make a great gift for any music lover on your list.

Here is the complete album tracklisting:
Looking Out
Dying Day
Pride And Joy
Dreams
That Year
Caroline
Before It Breaks
I Will
If There Was No You
Touching The Ground
Oh Dear
