Music and Stories for Kids Anytime, Anywhere: SweetPea3 MP3 Player Review

Saturday, November 06, 2010 Posted by Dina N

My kids love dancing just as much as they love books. They have preferences on what CDs to play at home and what songs to listen to in the car. And just don't let me started on their story collection - I lost count on how many children's books we have a long time ago. Then there's the books on CD, on the PC, and the Scholastic storybooks on DVD.

The SweetPea3 MP3 Player for Kids is the perfect solution to their love of books and music. We received the violet one, and it quickly became my kids' favorite entertainment. As I type this, they are listening to The Tortoise and the Hare, one of the dozen songs and stories that come preloaded on this MP3 player. There are no CDs to change or to scratch, no easily accessible button to play with the volume, no cords to tangle. The SweetPea3 is cute but sturdy, and the perfect size for little hands. I love the simple, kid-friendly design. The case is coated in hard rubber that can withstand kid-handling, is virtually impossible to take apart, and needs a screwdriver to open the battery compartment. My children can hold the player while dancing, or leave it on the table, on the floor, on a chair, it can go anywhere with them. It runs on one AA battery, and the 2 GB memory stores up to 32 hours of songs and stories. That's about 700 songs - tons of pure fun!

The SweetPea3 MP3 player comes with a USB cable that allows me to easily transfer music from any computer. It plays MP3, WAM, AAC and OGG files. The menus for adjusting the player's settings are hidden from little people but they can easily go back or forward from one song to another. There is a large LCD display showing the track number and song / story title. The MP3 player can be used with headphones (not included) but personally, I prefer that my kids don't for now. As an alternative to the battery, an AC adapter can be purchased for $9.95.

Bottom line is - my kids think the SweetPea3 rocks, and I agree. Now maybe I should get the blue one for hubby...
