Keep Important Papers Safe with Master Lock Boxes: Review and Giveaway (Ends 3/31) CLOSED

Master Lock has some wonderful storage solutions that help keep safe tax documents and other important papers. I found an even better alternative to my red folder: the Master Lock 7148D storage box. This steel box is a security file box that comes with a set of 2 keys. It's perfect for storing tax paperwork. It can also work great for keeping other vital documents, such as birth certificates, social security cards and passports. It's large enough to fit tons of stuff without being too bulky to store conveniently. The storage box measures 10.5"x13.5"x6", fitting standard-size documents and has a handle for easy transport. I love the extra protection of the durable steel construction and the lock that keeps curious little fingers away. While this is no substitute for a safety deposit box, it gives me peace of mind to know that the important documents we keep at home are safe and always on hand. If you are using a professional to do your taxes, you can take everything to them in this box.
Finally, here is a cool tip on organizing for tax season from Master Lock. While you may not need all ten categories, it's a great way to keep things in order. Store the paperwork in the 7148D security box and tax time will be a snap!
Create a separate file for all of your tax documents and organize it into 10 categories: income (pay stubs, W-2s, interest statements), medical (medical expenses and health insurance out-of-pocket), donations (cash and non-cash donations), real estate (interest statements from mortgage, tax assessments), child care (payment receipts), tax correspondence (important IRS or state revenue service letters), student loans (statements of payment), miscellaneous receipts (any receipts that might be needed for deductions), payments (records of advance payments) and old tax papers (old tax returns). Continue to use your tax file year-round, and you won’t have to scramble for these documents when it comes time to file next year.

I keep one file folder for all tax stuff so that as it comes in I shove it in there then can just pull the folder out when we are ready to do taxes.

I have all my taxes seperated by the year. So each year I gather the tax stuff I get in the mail and put it in an envelope and put it with last years taxes. Then I hand it over to my mom!

I label a manilla folder at the beginning of each year and put EVERYTHING that will be needed at tax time into that folder during the year. I don't generally have so much that I need multiple folders, one works and I sort everything when I get ready to do my taxes.

At the beginning of each year (Jan 2), I start placing documents, receipts, tax info into a plain envelope marked - Taxes 2011 [example] and keep it my desk for easy access. Then when tax time comes I have everything I need to prepare my taxes for the following year.

I keep everything I need for taxes like receipts and last years taxes all together in a labeled folder. I also label all receipts so I remember what they were for. wilcarvic

I keep everything in the same place, an accordian file made of paper. I pull it all out when it's tax time to make sure I have last year's return, and all of the other necessary information to file.
