Mornings are hectic once school starts. Packing snacks and lunches, drinks and water bottles, homework and bookbags seems to take even longer when we are in a hurry. And let's not forget breakfast - the important meal that helps children start their day right. Cereal makes a quick, easy breakfast - one that kids can make on their own. A bowl of cereal, top it off with some low-fat organic milk - and voila, breakfast is served.
We always have several varieties of cold cereal in the pantry. Some of them come from Malt-O-Meal, a company that has been family-owned for four generations. Breakfast cereal is all they make. Recently, we tried Malt-O-Meal’s NEW Blueberry Mini Spooners. This whole grain wheat cereal has 11 vitamins and minerals and zero grams trans fat. Each serving provides 6 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein. My kids, the cereal experts, loved the taste. I top it off with fresh blueberries and organic milk to make sure my children are getting a balanced meal.
Malt-O-Meal also helps make breakfast time a little bit greener. Their cereal comes in bags, not in boxes. And the bags can be upcycled! If you save the cereal bag and send it to TerraCycle, they will convert the bags into tote bags, park benches and much more. For each cereal bag shipment sent to TerraCycle, you will be awarded TerraCycle points that can be redeemed for a payment of $0.02 per bag for your school.
The Bag The Box campaign reminds us that each year, the U.S. produces 2.3 billion cereal boxes - that's enough paperboard to build three great pyramids! By eliminating the box and packing their cereal in a bag, Malt-O-Meal has reduced the amount of packaging that consumers have to dispose of by 75 percent. Check out the Bag The Box website to learn why bags are a smarter packaging solution.
One lucky U.S. reader will win a Malt-O-Meal cereal prize pack (ARV $25)! The prize pack includes five varieties of Malt-O-Meal cereal.
