Rain, Rain, Come to Stay

Wednesday, March 14, 2012 Posted by Dina N

Around here, we need all the rain we can get. Drought is not good - for plants, lawns, or humans. Every time it rains, I wish we had rain barrels. That way, we could collect some of those precious drops of water to use in the yard when needed.

A rain barrel is certainly handy to have in your garden. These days, rain water barrels are not just useful - they can be decorative, too. I am especially fond of this rain water barrel disguised as a flower pot. It holds an impressive 75 gallons and comes with a lockable childproof lid. Rain harvesting can be a good lesson in conservation for my kids, who are already proficient in recycling and turning off the lights when we leave a room. I can just see them filling in their cute little watering cans from the spout of a pretty rain barrel.

Rain barrels for sale are available online. I found a company called Simply Rain Barrels that has tons of different barrels, including my favorite decorative ones. In addition, they have rain tank systems, garden accessories, and rain barrel and tank accessories. You can find a rain barrel for sale that works for you. So next time it's raining, you'll be happily collecting rain water for your garden rather than singing rain, rain, go away.

I would love to live in an area that had enough rain to save it in a rain barrel.

We collect rain water . With a garden needing water it sure helps especially in dry weather. And the rain chains are really nice I want one of them .

I know some people who have a rain barrel. I did not realize that they could be decorative too. Cool! I'll have to check that site out! Thanks for the info. kristiedonelson(at)gmail(dot)com Thank you.

We live in the desert so a rain barrel would be nice to have, however I think it would evaporate rather quickly as it is quite long between rain here.

I love the idea of a rain barrel. The one in the photo would be lovely to have. We have not had rain in a while now and wild fires are starting. Hope it rains soon!
