My Thoughts
Mini Pies by Morgan Greenseth and Christy Beaver is an adorable little cookbook, full of recipes for delectable mini treats. The authors have brought pies to a whole new level. They've shrunk them down to the size of a cupcake, while preserving everything I love about pies: the flaky crust, the yummy fillings, the overall deliciousness and the spirit of holidays and celebration shared with family and friends.
The Mini Pies cookbook starts with a chapter about pie crusts. For me, the crust makes the pie. The authors teach you how to make the perfect pie crust, a graham cracker crust and a vegan one, a nutty crust and a gluten-free crust, and more. Then there's a chapter each on fruit pies, creamy custard pies, nut and savory pies, and of course toppings. The recipes are clearly explained and easy to follow. The mini pies are not too difficult to prepare but they look very impressive - like you took hours to make them. They are made in muffin tins so you don't need special mini pie pans if you already have a muffin pan. Beautiful mouth-watering photos accompany most recipes. I love the one-line descriptions listed as a subtitle for each pie, sort of a witty byline, and the Sweet Tips on the side.

Hey, Patty stole my answer! I bought the most delicious homemade peach pie at a roadside stand in British Columbia one time. We also bought some tarts that we ate in the car. They were SO good!

Ooh - that book sounds super cute! I'm a huge pie fan, but I'm always daunted by the prospect of making my own crust. It's really so much better, though! I love most of the fruit and fall-themed pies, but my absolute favorite is French Silk pie. I think I'd have it for my last meal, if I could pre-plan! :)
