Book #Giveaway: The Reckoning by Alma Katsu Coming Out in Paperback

Monday, January 21, 2013 Posted by Dina N

The Reckoning, Alma Katsu's sequel to her remarkable debut novel The Taker, is coming out in paperback! I am glad to see the same gorgeous cover. Gallery Books is releasing the book on Tuesday, January 22. If you missed it - read it. Amazon has The Reckoning on pre-order at 32% off right now - and as always, with a price guarantee.

Book Description
Love saved her soul . . . but the shadows of the past condemn her.

In this “rich, satisfying, and gorgeously written sequel” (Chapters) to her acclaimed debut novel, The Taker, Alma Katsu pairs a mysteriously alluring young woman with an ER doctor from rural Maine on a harrowing, passion-fueled chase that transcends the boundaries of time.

With Dr. Luke Findley by her side, Lanore McIlvrae imprisoned her immortal enemy and has embarked on a new life; now all of London is clamoring to see the Victoria and Albert Museum’s “mystery” exhibit— Lanny’s collections of lost nineteenth-century treasures, including the last precious gift given to her by Jonathan, the man who owns her heart for eternity. But the portal to her past opens once more, as Adair, the Taker, crashes into the twenty-first century to hunt down Lanny and exact revenge for her heartless betrayal—the price she must pay for an endless love.

My Thoughts
When I read The Taker, I was completely captivated by the story and impressed by Ms. Katsu's writing talent. It's hard to believe The Taker is her debut. The first book in the trilogy remains one of the best novels I read in 2011. I just could not wait to read the sequel. The Reckoning continues the story of Lenore who was made immortal by Adair, the Taker, two hundred years ago. Eternal life turns out to be more of a burden than a gift for Lenore. The love of her life is gone, Adair is free from the prison where she put him two centuries earlier, and she is on the run, scared to face his revenge.

The Reckoning continues to explore the many facets of love but focuses mainly on how it changes people. Even a villain can fall victim to unrequited love, and in The Reckoning the tables are turned for some of the characters. No one is more affected by love's power than Lenore and Adair - but I will not spoil the story for you by revealing too many details. There's enough background in The Reckoning to read it as a standalone book - still, if you've missed The Taker, read it before you move on to The Reckoning. You will not regret it. And yes, there's a third book in the making...
