My Thoughts
The recipes in The Digest Diet Cookbook are based on Liz Vaccariello's book, The Digest Diet, that came out last year. The first three chapters provide a summary of the diet and help you create your own 21-day fat release plan. The other seven chapters include 150 all-new recipes, grouped by type of meal. From breakfast through soups, main dishes, salads, sides, and desserts, there are tons of delicious recipe ideas that I'll be incorporating into my family's meals. I've been experimenting with shakes recently and I've enjoyed making several versions of the fast release shake and the fade away shake. The great thing about these two  is that they are master recipes, and you can pick and choose the fruit/fiber, healthy fats, and flavorings to find what tastes best to you. I cook often with chicken, salmon, and turkey, and was happy to find a variety of interesting recipes that incorporate these great sources of protein.

The recipes are clearly explained, each including the nutritional values per serving and which fat releasers are used. In the appendix, the author gives some useful tips and menus, including advice for quick meals, vegetarian options, dairy-free, cooking for one, and dieting on a budget. Mouth-watering photos can be seen throughout the book.

If you are interested in trying out The Digest Diet, here is a description of the basics:

The Digest Diet is a 21-day weight-loss plan based on groundbreaking science and newly discovered foods and habits that help your body to release fat. Reader’s Digest sifted through all the weight-loss science to pick the foods, recipes, and habits that truly slim you down quickly and safely. We reviewed cutting-edge nutrition advances and myth-busting articles. We discovered some new reasons fat creeps on—and reliable ways to get it to fade away quickly. The Digest Diet targets surprising fat increasers in three key areas—eating, environment and exercise—and gives you the tools you need to turn the tables and shift your body into fat release mode.

The eating plan is organized in three basic stages: Fast Release, Fade Away, and Finish Strong. Every phase loads you up on fat releasers. But the calorie and macronutrient ratios shift in each so as to maximize fat release—and results!

One of my favorite meals is homemad pasta sauce. It is full of carrots, onions, crushed tomatoes, garlic, celery and lots of spices. Great for you and tastes so much better than pasta sauce from a jar
