#GrowingUpOnline Free eBook and The Lorax Blu-ray #Giveaway

Saturday, September 14, 2013 Posted by Dina N

As they get older, my kids spend more time online. It used to be just the occasional visit to PBS Kids. Now they get online to do homework, play educational games, and do research for school projects. The teachers post assignments on their blogs. Parents get to see their kids's grades posted online as soon as tests and homework have been graded.

Although I closely monitor my kids' online activities for now, I realize that won't always be possible. It's so important to teach them to use technology responsibly and stay safe on the web. I came across a useful resource for us parents: Growing Up Online, a free eBook from The More You Know Learning Series in collaboration with NBC News.

Use the #GrowingUpOnline Blog App and take the quiz to see if your child is ready to safely surf the web! Download the Growing Up Online eBook and be sure to watch all four entertaining comic book stories as a family. The stories show real situations that may occur when your kids go online.

This free eBook provides easy-to-use information that addresses the growing concern about kids’ online privacy and cyber bullying in a unique and engaging way. Growing Up Online is packed with important tips that every parent should know!

I keep my son safe by only allowing him on the internet on the computer or tab when I'm able to sit next to him and monitor his activity. He is only 5 but I have stressed the importance of not giving out personal information to any website!

At this point, I don't let my daughter surf the web. I let her access websites that I have bookmarked for her.

We are all set for the net here. My daughter has been playing educational games online since she was 3, and even with me there with her most of the time, we have parental controls for her.
