At first glance, Energems looked to me like jumbo m&m candy - or would, if such a thing existed. I would not eat them by the handful, though. They might look like candy, taste like candy but are, in fact, a creatively presented dietary supplement. One serving of three gems packs a caffeine kick equal to that of a cup of coffee or a typical energy drink. I never cared for energy drinks but I love (almost) all things chocolate, so an energy boost made with real milk chocolate sounds pretty good to me.
In addition to caffeine, Energems contain B-vitamins and a proprietary energy blend. I enjoy coffee but usually limit my intake to a cup or two per day. I found Energems work best for me mid-morning, when the effect of my breakfast latte is wearing off and I start wishing for a darkened room and a soft pillow. Since I don't consume a lot of coffee, I can really feel the caffeine kick of these gems. I was a little worried that I would not be able to resist them and would gobble up an entire box in one sitting - did I mention they had chocolate? While I find it difficult to just have one, a single serving of three is enough for me. I like the taste and flavor but there is a bit of an aftertaste that I don't enjoy. One handy little box contains nine gems, or three servings. They come in three flavors: chocolate, peanut butter, and mint. Although all three are made with milk chocolate, the plain chocolate is my favorite.
Three pieces of Energems have 45 calories, 2 grams of fat, 8 grams of carbs, and 7 grams of sugar, according to the label. They also pack almost half of the daily value (DV) of Niacin and six times that of Vitamin B6, about a third of the DV for folate, and 25 times the DV of Vitamin B12. As with all dietary supplements, of course, check with your doctor before using, follow usage recommendations on label, and remember that this product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Energems are available at more than 20,000 retailers nationwide, as well as on Energems.net. You can download a $1 off coupon for Energems from their website.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers. All opinions are my own.
